About Scott
From a young age I have been enthralled with the outdoors. Growing up in the country with Mt. Jefferson as our backdrop and access to many streams, rivers and lakes led to endless discovery and wonder that I have never outgrown. Our family trips to the Little North Fork of the Santiam River and trips to the Oregon Coast were legendary in our family.
As a teenager I began heading deeper into the wood on extended hiking and backpacking trips. This was my church. I felt completely safe and at home. I was never scared.
I then discovered mountaineering. I have climbed nearly every peak in Oregon and many more around the Pacific Northwest, including Mt Hood twelve times, Mt Rainier four times and the tallest volcano in Mexico three times. It was during this time that I learned of other climbers known as “peak baggers.” I could not relate to this “hurry up and get to the top mentality.” Are we not hurried enough in our day to day lives? I was learning the power of slow, nature slow, and that was transforming me.
I later attended Tom Brown’s Tracker school. I had read his books and always dreamed of attending the school but could never seem to manage to have the time or money. I learned a lot and I learned I had come to the school with a lot more knowing than I thought I had! It helped me be a better fire maker, shelter builder and deepen my philosophy and my love of wilderness. This came at a critical time in my life and I am convinced the weeks spent outdoors at the school grounded me to be able to come back to my daily life with the clarity I needed to move forward.
After beginning my career as a certified professional coach, I realized how impactful getting people outdoors could be, so I launched this as an additional offering. My very first paying client spent 6 nights and 7 days with me exploring Mt Jefferson Wilderness in some very remote areas. As an investment banker living in New York he was searching for meaning in his life and some answers to some nagging questions. He came away from this trip changed and it was deeply satisfying to witness this transformation firsthand. I am proud to say we are still good friends today.
